BMKG Celebrate the 67th World Meteorological Day for 1 Month

Jakarta / The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of the Republic of Indonesia (BMKG) joined the rest of the world meteorological communities in celebrating the 67th World Meteorological Days with "Understanding Clouds" as this year theme. To celebrate the event, BMKG conduct more than 10 activities such as, seminars, workshops, talkshows, exhibition and competitions for one month. These activities started from 6 March and end on 30 March 2017. The events not only held in BMKG Jakarta but also in more than 180 BMKG station around Indonesia.

BMKG celebrate the 67th anniversary of World Meteorological Day under the theme "Befriends the Weather for Disaster Preparedness". Director General of BMKG, Dr. Andi Eka Sakya, in his message on the occasion of the World Meteorological day 2017, said that climate change become more challenging this year especially with the increasing frequency of the hydro meteorological disaster. Climate change also affecting all social economics sectors. From agriculture to tourism, from infrastructure to health sectors. It's become a threat for sustainable development and this not only happen in developing countries. That's why disaster preparedness is needed to reduce the potential threat and loss.

World Meteorological Day was started celebrating on 23rd of March every year since 1961. The reason that the 23rd March was chosen is that it commemorates the date that the WMO Convention came into force.
